Benchtop ammonia analyzers are sensitive instruments that can easily be damaged by humidity and mold growth. To ensure accurate readings and a long service life, proper moisture and mold prevention is essential.
First, always place the analyzer in a dry, well-ventilated area away from sinks, windows, or any source of water splashes. If the ambient humidity is high, consider using a small dehumidifier or silica gel packs inside the instrument’s storage cover when not in use. These absorb excess moisture from the air.
Second, clean the analyzer regularly. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior after each use, paying special attention to crevices around the sample chamber and keypad. If any liquid spills occur, dry it immediately. For stubborn spots, a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent can be used, but never let moisture seep into the ventilation slots or electronic ports.
Third, during long periods of inactivity, remove the sample cuvette or reaction tube and leave the sample compartment open for a few hours to let any trapped humidity escape. Cover the analyzer with a breathable dust cover—not plastic, which can trap moisture and promote mold.
Finally, inspect the instrument monthly for early signs of mold, such as musty odors or dark spots on rubber parts or seals. If mold appears, wipe gently with a cloth slightly moistened with diluted vinegar or isopropyl alcohol, then dry thoroughly. Never use harsh chemicals or spray liquids directly onto the analyzer.
By following these simple habits, you can protect your benchtop ammonia analyzer from the damaging effects of moisture and mold, keeping it reliable for years to come.
