Regular cleaning is a key part of routine maintenance.

    Ensure the instrument is powered off before starting any maintenance.

    Step-by-Step Cleaning Procedure

    Remove the Filter Cartridge:

    Locate the filter housing, which is typically situated at the instrument's sample inlet.

    Carefully disconnect the inlet and outlet tubing.

    Unscrew or unclip the filter housing and gently take out the filter cartridge.

    Inspect the Cartridge:

    Visually inspect the cartridge. If it is discolored, damaged, or cracked, it must be replaced, not cleaned.

    Rinse and Clean:

    Hold the cartridge under a gentle stream of clean, deionized (DI) water or distilled water. Rinse the exterior thoroughly to remove loose debris.

    For a more thorough cleaning, prepare a mild cleaning solution. You can use a diluted laboratory-grade detergent or a weak acid solution (like a 5% hydrochloric acid solution) if there are mineral deposits. Soak the cartridge in this solution for 10-15 minutes.

    Agitate and Rinse Again:

    Gently agitate the cartridge in the cleaning solution. Avoid brushing or scrubbing the filter material, as this can damage it.

    After soaking, rinse the cartridge extensively with deionized water. Ensure all traces of the cleaning solution are completely washed away, as any residue can contaminate samples and affect nitrite readings.

    Final Checks

    After reassembly, power on the analyzer. Run a few cycles with deionized water or a blank solution to prime the system and flush out any potential residual contaminants before resuming normal sample analysis.

    Regular cleaning of the filter cartridge is a simple yet vital maintenance task. It protects your nitrite auto-analyzer from damage and safeguards the integrity of your monitoring data. Always adhere to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule for optimal performance. If the filter remains clogged even after cleaning, it is time for a replacement.
